Let’s take a trip down memory lane to those classic golden days of the Fabulous Fifties when Elvis was king, the television western reigned supreme and cars were stylish and distinctive with their long, flashy tail fins. It was a decade filled with events and social change that affected the way people lived and thought of themselves.

Internationally, the 1950′s was dominated by the United States. The arrival of television and Rock and Roll brought the first real impact of modern American culture to the world. And, the spread of communism marked the beginning of the Cold War and fierce rivalry in which the United States and Soviet Union and their respective allies competed for political and military supremacy culminating in the Arms Race that divided the world into two armed camps.

The Fabulous Fifties was a conservative era dominated by wholesome, suburban family ideals, people believed more in the greater good of society and authority was respected. Family life was much more close-knit and there was the security of a warm and loving family home. Children of the 1950′s were taught etiquette towards parents and elders, they had rules to abide by and went to church. The big saying of the 1950′s was, “children are to be seen and not heard”-all to the purpose of teaching values, responsibility and developing morals. And, children could go to the Saturday afternoon cinema on their own without fear.

It was the heyday of the friendly corner shops, when fresh bread and milk was delivered to your doorstep in the early hours of the morning and blocks of ice was still being delivered for the ice box in homes by horse-drawn wagon. You could leave your front door open on a hot summer night and people would sleep outside on their front lawns. And, the Salvation Army brass band and choir played and sang their beautiful Christian songs of worship proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus on suburban street corners.

The 1950′s man was the bread winner and the woman was the traditional housewife and important centre of family life. who was counted on to provide the emotional support, teach domestic skills to her daughters and proper etiquette, cleanliness and morals to her children. Girls played with dolls and the hula hoop, boys played with toys guns and dressed in Roy Rogers and Davy Crockett western gear.

Cars in those days were seen as an indicator of prosperity and, of course, it was full service at every service station where the attendant filled the tank, checked your tyres, water and oil and cleaned your windshield.

During the Fabulous Fifties, television replaced radio as the dominant mass media. We enjoyed popular family shows like I Love Lucy, Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, The Honeymooners, The Real McCoys, Superman, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin and Ozzie and Harriet.

The television cowboys of the Wild West like Roy Rogers, Gene Autrey, Hopalong Cassidy, the Cisco Kid and the Lone Ranger were the childhood heroes. Other popular cowboy shows included Bonanza, Rawhide, Cheyenne, Bronco, Sugarfoot, Wagon Train,Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and Annie Oakley-to name just a few. And, of course, there were the movie heroes like John Wayne, James Stewart, Joel McCrea, Gary Cooper, Randolph Scott and Audie Murphy.

The vibrant sounds of Rock and Roll was also, without doubt, the biggest entertainment news of the Fabulous Fifties and Elvis Presley was the epitome of the 1950′s musical revolution that swept the world. Elvis symbolized Rock and Roll with his side burns, pushed back hair and upturned collar, he became the symbol of a new fashion for the young generation. Elvis was-and always will be, the King of Rock and Roll.

The Fabulous Fifties also offered a combination of sounds for everyone and classic vocalists like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Nat King Cole and Doris Day all remained popular throughout and beyond the 1950′s.

Vocaloid Sheet Music?

I reeaaally need “From a Place You’re Not There” sang by Len and Rin, because I need it for a band cabaret night. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could show me somewhere that has free print outs because I can’t find it ANYWHERE! And it’s making me sad T^T
Sorry, I already have a download on my iPod, I just need sheet music :)
But thanks anyway.

Well, I’m not sure if this place has it, but you should check it out:
