Cut Engagement
Pave (pronounced “pah-vay”) is a type of setting of precious stones placed together very closely so that no metal is showing. Therefore pave cushion cut engagement rings are covered with small stones (diamonds or other precious stones and gems) along its surface, giving the appearance of a solid stone (eg diamond) surface. This setting reflects grace, brilliance and class.
Also for this setting comes with a few options to choose from. There is the full pave setting which literally has stones covering the whole ring. This is a very impressive setting but has the disadvantage of the small diamonds rubbing against the fingers. The partial pave setting only has stones covering the top part of the ring. This setting allows the attention to be more focussed on the center stone than just on the encrusted stones. A favourite is the micro pave setting which uses very small stones to craft a sparkly surface. This also creates a smoother surface and is less likely to rub against the fingers.
Although pave cushion cut engagement rings look beautiful there are a few other things to keep in mind with this type of ring. Firstly, the stones can become loose over time. There is also a fairly high risk of losing the stones as some of them could fall out of the setting. Therefore if you own a pave setting engagement ring you should make sure to check the ring for loose stones on a fairly regular basis. If you are unsure how to do this your jeweller should be happy to help you and explain how to look for loose stones.
