Help with Book Display ideas for market stall!!!?
Hello, I want to set up a book stall at my local markets. Does anyone have any display ideas? I will have heaps of books that i want displayed professionally but don’t want to pay for a book display rack. I will probaby just have a folding table. Does anyone have any clever book display ideas that I could use??
I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around “professional display” and “folding table”, hehehe
If you are serious about selling some books, you need to do a good job with the display. First, you need to get the books up between chest height, and eye level. No higher, no lower. Ever notice the ‘bargain books” are on tables?
If this is a display you are going to leave up (like a consignment stand), then you really should think about getting some sort of shelving. You might look around for one of those book carousels, or magazine racks. You’d be surprised what you can find in store fixtures for sale. A ‘boat shaped’ shelf would stand out. You can always make something yourself too, or contact a local Vo-Tech school, or shop class… the students are usually looking for projects to do. A local cabinet shop can easily make something customized to your needs too.
I can see trying to stick with a folding table if you need this to be portable, and plan on breaking it down every day. If so, you need to do something to get the books up higher than the table surface. Lumber and milk crates maybe? IF you do anything like that, be sure to throw a piece of fabric over the whole thing (even the table). Use a small book holder to ‘stand’ a book up, to help grab people’s attention. Even if you have the same books stacked next to it, it’s always good to stand some up so the display is eye catching. If the table isn’t large enough to set up a pyramid with crates and lumber, then try stacking just crates. I’d use something more solid than a cardboard box, just in case someone leans on it, hehe. Even used books sell better when they are displayed above table height.
