In the days of our fathers and their fathers, there were very few choices for a man when it came to what sort of ring to wear. Men in those days rarely wore rings as pure decoration – they wore wedding bands, occasionally a school ring, and maybe a fraternal one if they were a Mason or an Oddfellow. But regardless, most of those rings were made from gold. Gold men’s rings are the simple white shirt of today’s jewellery: they’re the most common, but more and more men are choosing to go in new and bolder directions.
What would cause a man to chose, say titanium over gold when he selects a new ring? Why not stick with the tried and true? New metals like titanium offer advantages that gold never has, and never could.
For one, titanium is an incredibly light metal. Men who are not used to wearing rings will find a titanium ring practically floats on the finger, and it’s very easy to forget it’s even there.
Titanium, for all its lightness, is an incredibly strong metal. It is the sort of ring that any man can wear, regardless of his profession. Many men who work with their hands simply cannot wear their gold rings, for fear of damaging them. Gold is a very soft metal, and it easily bends if struck. Titanium is as hard as gold is soft, and allows men to wear their rings with confidence, knowing they don’t have to worry about little impacts damaging their ring. Titanium rings also don’t suffer from corrosion or tarnish, so you won’t have to be forever cleaning your rings to keep them looking new. And the hypoallergenic properties of titanium mean that you won’t have a reaction to wearing the ring, even if you usually can’t wear jewellery or have metals in contact with your skin.
Titanium also comes in a wider array of colors. Gold rings are limited to either gold or “white gold” colors – although white gold is merely a lesser alloy, covered with rhodium plating that requires regular upkeep and reconditioning. Titanium can take on a multitude of colors, without adding a weaker coating to the rings. Everything from bright oranges, cool blues, vivid greens and high-gloss blacks can be achieved in titanium – and of course, you can always stick with the tried-and-true silver-grey color.
In short, gold men’s rings are a wonderful option, but they aren’t the only one anymore. Today, a man can choose a ring made out of any number of precious and semi-precious metals. Gold can be the whole of a ring, an accent to another metal, or not included at all, and the ring can still be a valued addition to the man’s attire.

For Canada: Since a lot of people like to believe that Hockey is the only thing every Canadian is capable of doing, Canada’s dignity is on the line. Plus the whole ‘advantage on home ice’, or ‘will this country strike gold on home land’ or ‘own the podium’ slogans will pretty much make Canadians look bad if they don’t win. GO CANADA GO! But I mean, Hockey is a big thing in Canada.. and we need to win this game to continue pursuing the need to be the Hockey capital in everyones eyes.
