Why do you put dowels in a wedding cake?
I love watching Amazing Wedding Cakes, but I always see them hammering dowels or little pipes into the cakes. and I think they said somewhere that it’s to keep the cakes from crushing each other, bt how exactly does that work? Thanks.
Yes, it’s to keep the upper tiers from squashing the lower tiers.
Each tier has a cakeboard under it, which is a piece of cardboard cut to size. The cakeboard rests against the dowels in the lower tiers.
Basically, it’s like putting a tier on a plate and holding the plate up with evenly spaced columns that happen to go through a bottom tier.
