How would I mount aerial silk rigging to my ceiling?
I’ve been taking lessons in aerial silks and I’d like to be able to practice at home. What kind of hardware would I need to mount the aerial silks rigging to my ceiling at home? I don’t have exposed beams, unfortunately, so I know I’ll be drilling into a joist or two. I would comfortable if the set up could safely hold 400 lbs (I weigh 107 lbs, but I will be moving around, no drops though).
Need eye bolts. I would not hang myself from the lag bolt kind, I would use the nut and bolt type.
I have made a bed loft using 3 legs and 1 chain coming down from the ceiling. Used a heavy duty eye bolt in the center of the joist above the bed. I drilled a hole in the ceiling large enough for the chain and installed the chain.
For you application i dont think a center mounted eye bolt would work because you want to swing. You need the eye bolt to protrude from the ceiling. For this i would get a 4×4 and span it across 2 joists and screw+glue it in place. Then drill thru the 4×4 down thru ceiling. then install eyebolt into the 4×4. I would use a lock washer, with nylon lock nut, and add some loctite to the bolt and then finally bang crush some upper threads of the bolt with hammer or pliers to keep the nut from backing off.
