Why are platform wedge heels more unstable than stiletto heels?

The heel height is similar, and both have platforms. But the wedge is so much more wobbly, especially on carpet. I thought wedges are supposed to be more stable. Plus there is much more surface area on the sole of the wedge than on the stiletto. Just wondering about the science of the shoes – I’ve always heard that wedges were easier heels to wear.
