What is the difference between a promise ring and a regular ring?
I’ve been with my girlfriend for 3 years and plan on getting her a promise ring for Valentines Day. Is there any thing special behind a promise ring? or is it just the intent that counts?
let me be more specific… I know what a promise ring “means”… I’m asking if there’s a difference in the ring itself. Like some websites (Zales, for ex) have specific promise rings.. Can i just get her a normal ring?
A Promise ring symbolizes the love that you have for your girlfriend. Similar to a wedding ring, except a promise ring would be considered a lower grade version. When granting your significant other a promise ring you are basically signifying your LOVE to her by materializing it, and by giving her a simple vow of your love & your admiration of your romantic relationship with her. I believe that the ring itself has a material value which is determined by its style, price & size of the ring. So upon granting her a promise ring you should be promising her that you will not lie to her, promise not to cheat on her, promise not to hurt her etc. The ring basically represents that you love her, that you appreciate her, & that you appreciate the relationship.
Yes, clarification is great! Buy her a promise ring…a regular ring has no significance unless it is nice & you explain why you are giving it to her. You shouldn’t run away from the promise ring if you really love her…no need for the regular ring. She will love you for your intentions.
