As the flower girl will proceed the bride, all eyes will be on her as she walks along scattering petals for the bride to walk on from her beautiful flower girl basket. So, you want to choose your basket carefully. You can choose by shape, by style, by color or by adornment. Take your time and consider the following:
1. Shape: There are four shapes that flower girl baskets traditionally come in. There is the traditional round basket, there is a lovely fan shaped basket, there is a basket that looks like an inverted hat, and finally there is an unusual square shaped basket. In addition to the baskets, there is also the satchel style which is worn like a shoulder purse rather than hand carried. All are quite beautiful.
2. Style: It’s amazing how much range of style can be found in flower girl baskets. There are the traditional lace covered ones, the simple white satin, silk and velvet, brocade, and moire fabric. The two most important things to consider are the formality of your wedding and the age of your flower girl. For a traditional white, formal wedding–choose from the more formal lace covered or white satin baskets. For a less formal wedding, choose a basket that matches the mood you are trying to create, a dual colored or crystal studded basket. Secondly, consider the age of your flower girl and choose a basket that is easy for her to handle. If she is under 5, a simple round basket will probably be easier for her to manage. If she is older, the fan shaped basket or inverted hat style is more appropriate.
3. Color: In the last few years, flower girl baskets have discovered color. Vibrant reds, deep purples, pinks and now this year, combination of brown and aqua. Satin and Organza ribbons accenting the main color are also featured. So stretch your imagination, and play with having a contrasting flower girl basket color to your main colors. You may still decide that the beautiful white satin basket is exactly what you want –but you can have fun looking at all the choices.
4. Many flower girl baskets feature lovely adornments. There are hand-made satin roses or calla lily flowers attached to the sides. Others feature crystal or rhinestone shaped accents. Still others feature shells for a beach themed wedding or a cross for a Christian wedding.
So in choosing the right Flower Girl Basket for you wedding, take into account the level of formality of your ceremony, the shape, colors and adornments featured on the basket and what really enhances your theme. You will end up with a beautiful basket that will be a delight for your flower girl to carry!
