Ring Wrap
Weddings and diamond rings are two subjects that just go together. A diamond wrap, however, is becoming more popular today and something you should consider for the lady in your life.
While simple solitaire diamond rings are still the standard for engagement rings today, many women are looking for something different to spice up their wedding set. Instead of just getting a plain band to go with their single stone engagement rings, more women are choosing to get diamond ring wraps as their wedding bands. In this way, a diamond solitaire can be both enhanced and made into something unique – just by the addition of a wrap with flourish.
There are many different types of diamond ring wraps, and not all of them are meant as replacements for wedding bands. Some women choose to wear a ring wrap around an heirloom diamond (such as their mother’s engagement ring), and still others choose to wear both a wrap and wedding band along with their own engagement ring. Wraps can be made in any type of metal to match the original ring – from white gold and yellow gold (typically 14k or 18k) to platinum. Some wraps are made in a two-tone style, so as to match either white or yellow gold.
Diamond ring wraps can be made in a variety of styles as well. Some people prefer a style that is reminiscent of a swirl – these styles can be made of just metal (gold or platinum) or include stones. A wrap in the swirl style usually curves around the solitaire diamond, and surrounds the stone (a complete circle cannot be made, because there needs to be room for the rings to nest). Another common style is a wrap that “sandwiches” the solitaire, like a ring guard. These types of wraps often have diamonds or other stones on both the upper and lower portion of the wrap, and the engagement ring slides in between them. Finally, some ring wraps have just two stones, one on either side of the solitaire, meant to subtly enhance the original ring.
There are several things to consider when purchasing a ring wrap. Wraps can be made with either additional, smaller diamonds (cut in a variety of shapes such as baguettes) or they can include colored stones, such as rubies, sapphires and emeralds. It is important to make sure that the diamond ring wrap is made to accommodate the carat weight of the original diamond – a too-small or too-large opening can look bad. Also, you may need to size up your ring wrap by a half size – wearing a wrap over another ring can mean that you need a larger size to fit properly.
