Centuries ago tiaras were worn only by the very rich or by royalty. They were meant to symbolize wealth, prosperity, and regality. Princesses, queens, and duchesses wore them at state dinners and other official functions.
Actually, they probably wore them all the time. Wear a tiara to breakfast. Wear one to the market. Wear it just lounging around the castle. If you are royalty, why not revel in it?
The flip side of the coin is that historically there were not a whole lot of opportunities for the average woman to wear a tiara. Even today, unless you are Wonder Woman or the winner of a beauty pageant, you probably aren’t going to be wearing a tiara too often. Sure, there will be big occasions in your life. But can you imagine accepting a Pulitzer Prize while wearing a tiara? People would think you were insane.
There is one occasion, however, when it is perfectly normal for a woman to wear a tiara. That is, of course, on her wedding day. It is the one day of a woman’s life when it isn’t just acceptable for her to look and feel like a princess, it is expected. Here are a few examples of gorgeous tiaras that will make your big day all the more special.
