Halo Settings – A simple solitaire will always be the first choice of most brides, and it will always be in style. But halo settings for that solitaire are becoming increasingly popular. This setting consists of a ring, or frame, of smaller diamonds or gemstones, that surround the solitaire, making it look very rich and sophisticated. You can even go with a smaller solitaire in the middle of this ring because the halo adds dimension and size to the overall ring.
Tulip Settings – Tulip and Trellis settings are the hottest trend right now for solitaire engagement rings and the three stone rings. The interwoven design looks very feminine and sophisticated and a lot of brides like them for the little extra flair they add to the ring.
Twin Shanks – The twin shank engagement ring is just coming into it’s own this year and looks to be the choice of celebrities. Nicole Richie, Katie Holmes and Jennifer Hudson all have twin shank engagement rings. The design looks very ornate with two shanks, on either side of the stone, that gradually meet and fuse in the back of the ring. Plain shanks are beautiful but if your budget will stand it, go for the more elegant look and get diamond accents in the shanks.

Is a solitaire the traditional engagement ring?
My boyfriend and I have been shopping for engagement rings recently, and I found the ring of my dreams. It’s a princess cut, three-stone ring with a pave band. But I’ve heard that traditionally you recieve a solitaire for and engagement ring, and three stones are more for anniversaries. Are three-stone rings popular engagement rings, or should I look at solitaires?
I’ve seen people with engagement rings with 3-stones, but generally they are more of side stones surrounding the larger middle stone. Usually the middle stone is supposed to stick out the most. Rings that have all three diamonds the same size signify past, present, and future, and are usually saved for anniversaries (as you mentioned). But, if thats what you like, then who cares? You’ll be wearing this engagement ring pretty much every day for most of your life, so you might as well get something you’re in love with.
