Stone Anniversary

How the process works
The process was developed by Azotic Coating Technology, Inc. and (mystic fire topaz earrings) and other pieces entered the market in 1998. Using a patented technique developed called physical vapor deposition, a very thin layer of titanium is applied to the underside of a white topaz. As light waves pass through the stone and the layer of titanium, the refracted light displays an array of blues, reds, greens and purples.
It is important to note that because the process starts with a naturally-occurring stone and the chemical properties are not altered, the resulting stone is completely natural and maintains the value of a natural stone.
Caring for these unique gemstones

However, while the top part is resistant to damage, the underside must be protected. Abrasive cloths, brushes and chemicals can scratch the layer of titanium which ruins the play of color in the stone. Only use gentle soaps and ordinary soft cloths with tepid water to clean.

I am currently interning for Wenner Media in New York City, which owns and operates Rolling Stone, Men’s Journal, and Us Weekly. Rolling Stone celebrates its 40th year anniversary in 2007.
