You might consider checking out Antique Victorian Rings. Just the name alone sounds so… Renaissance, don’t you think? All Victorian jewelry and rings in particular have a wide variety of elegant styles to offer to your beloved one, but there are also some common characteristics that nearly all Jewelry of the Victorian time share.

One thing that sets apart Antique Victorian Rings is the type of setting commonly employed. At the time this jewelry was being worn, diamonds were hard to come by and expensive. Jewellers of the Victorian time had to rely on a wide variety of less expensive gems for their settings; including Rubies, Garnets, Opals and Sapphires. They also used rose cut Diamonds and old hand cut Diamonds.

More or less, all Victorian Rings were similar in size and structure, and many utilized a three stone setting or a cluster stone setting to utilize smaller, less expensive gems.

As the name suggests, Antique Victorian Rings were made popular by the ruling Queen Victoria, who began her reign in 1837. She set the trend for fashion in the country at that time, and jewelry was no exception. She was madly in love with her husband, Prince Albert. To display her devoted passion to him, she preferred to wear rings that had double snakes upon the band, symbolizing love and passion. This quickly became en vogue for all of her loyal subjects as well, who revered her greatly.

Upon Albert’s passing, her sense of fashion began to wane, as did her court and then the entire country. The dark styles and black colours started to dominate attires and jewelry, where onyx and jet became favourite gems stones.

With the discovery and opening of the South African Diamond Mines in the 1870s, Diamonds became increasingly cheaper, and sounded the death knell of the Victorian style of jewelry.

With the new resurgence of interest in Victorian jewelry, you can escape the ‘Diamond rut’, win her heart and herald the splendour of a past filled with the beauty of Royalty… the beauty of Antique Victorian Rings

I need a name for a character !!?

I’m writing a longish story, and I need a name for the main female character. She is of noble decent (set in the victorian age BTW) She is an only child, red-head, dark almost-black eyes. SHe is quite observant of her parent’s meaning-less life, and realizes hers is rapidly turning out the same.

She wants to make a change, but she is 16 and a girl, a noble girl who is about to be married off to some righ fat count or other.

The story is how she befriends and falls in love with a young boy who works for the father. On the day of her engagement, they run away together. She the typical fierce warrior type heroine I guess. I need something from the victorian age but also something that stands out. That really suits someone like her.

Thanks for your help! =]
